CZARD in the Press: An Independent Watch House Making Its Mark in India
When CZARD opened its doors in India on 15 August 2026, it entered a watch market where buyers were becoming increasingly informed about movements, case proportions, finishing and provenance.
Within weeks, CZARD attracted coverage from leading business, fashion and lifestyle publications. The attention reflected the brand’s Swiss-inspired design language, limited collections, defined Chapter System and accessible approach to watch ownership.

CZARD featured in the Forbes India print edition on 31 August 2026.
An independent watch house with its Indian home in Surat
CZARD is an independent watch house with its Indian home in Surat, Gujarat. The brand was founded by entrepreneurs from Helsinki and Surat, with creative and product direction based in Geneva.
This combination of geographies gives CZARD an international outlook while keeping India central to its identity. The brand focuses on considered design, watchmaking details and a more personal approach to ownership.
The Indian watch buyer is increasingly interested in what sits behind a name on a dial: the movement, case proportions, finishing and provenance. CZARD was created for collectors who want these details to matter without limiting their choices to a small group of established names.
The Genève 1541: mechanical watchmaking with Swiss provenance
The Genève 1541 represents CZARD’s automatic collection. It uses the Sellita SW261-1 automatic movement and is presented in a 38mm case with 50m water resistance and a leather strap.
The collection is available in three colourways:
-
Écru
-
Lac Léman
-
Jura [Gruén]
The Genève 1541 is priced at ₹59,870 and strictly limited to 300 pieces. Each watch is individually numbered and accompanied by documentation relating to its origin and authenticity.
Its appeal lies in the balance between vintage-inspired proportions, restrained detailing and mechanical watchmaking. The collection is designed for buyers who value the character of an automatic movement and the individuality of limited production.
The Compass collection: a different entry point
The Compass collection offers a more accessible entry into CZARD’s design language. It is built around the Japanese TMI VK64 meca-quartz chronograph movement and priced at ₹14,999.
Each Compass watch features:
-
A 38mm case
-
High-dome K9 mineral crystal
-
Chronograph functionality
-
50m water resistance
-
Rounded chronograph pushers inspired by historic Swiss chronograph design
The Compass references are named VENI, VIDI and VICI, drawing on the well-known Latin phrase associated with Julius Caesar. Each edition has its own colour, finishing and visual character.
The VICI Compass, for example, features an Oxford green dial, a two-tone finish and a high-dome K9 mineral crystal.
A Chapter System for collectors
One of the details that made CZARD stand out is its numbered Chapter System.
The first two Compass Chapters consisted of 500 pieces each, and the first sold out within minutes. The current Compass Chapter is structured around 1,000 pieces, numbered from 0001 to 1000.
Within each Chapter, selected numbers may be reserved for an additional fee. These numbers can carry personal meaning, follow a memorable sequence or appeal to collectors who want a particular number attached to their watch.
Once a number has been claimed within the same collection and Chapter, it cannot be claimed again. This gives each watch a specific place within the history of its collection.
Why publications noticed CZARD
The attention around CZARD reflects several changes in the Indian watch market.
Many buyers now understand the difference between quartz, meca-quartz and automatic movements. They are also paying closer attention to case size, crystal type, finishing, provenance and production numbers.
At the same time, there is increasing interest in independent watch houses that offer a clear point of view. CZARD’s collections combine Swiss-inspired design language, Japanese and Swiss movements, limited production and a more accessible price structure.
This combination gives the brand a distinct position. The Compass Chapter System and the limited Genève 1541 collection provide a clear structure for collectors to understand what they are buying.

A new chapter for independent watchmaking in India
CZARD’s early press coverage reflects a broader interest in independent watch brands and a more informed generation of Indian watch buyers.
For CZARD, the story begins with an Indian foundation in Surat and extends through Swiss-inspired design, international creative direction and carefully structured collections. The Compass and Genève 1541 represent two different ways to enter the House of CZARD, while the Chapter System gives each watch a defined place within its collection.
